Hopefully everyone has recovered from all the fun festivities from July 4th, but keep in mind that there is always something fun to do in the Queen City in July!
1 Movie Nights at Spirit Square
Blumenthal Performing Arts is presenting movie nights on Fridays and Saturdays this month in uptown’s Spirit Square at the corner of College and Seventh Street. The evenings include free popcorn, food and drinks for sale, and movies under the stars (activities start at 7:45 p.m. and the show starts at 8:45 p.m.). Bring your own lawn chair and look for a wide variety of popular films from “Step Up” to “Singin’ in the Rain.”
2 Set Sail with Science on the Rocks: Pirates of the Queen City
Discovery Place is luring in landlubbers and old salts alike for this month’s Science on the Rocks on July 15. All hands hoay for a rum runner obstacle course, catapult beer pong, live jellyfish encounter, costume contest and much more! Mermaid Shannon and Mermaid Kym will be luring sailors to World Alive, so be sure to bring your camera for a photo op.
3 Celebrate 500 Years of Reinheitsgebot
Olde Mecklenburg Brewery offers beer made the old fashion way–the way the 500-year-old German purity law, Reinheitsgebot, says it must be made. Every OMB brew is made only from water, malt, hops, & yeast. Say cheers to fresh and authentic beer when the brewery celebrates the law’s big birthday with a weekend of beer, live music and fun in its popular biergarten July 22-24.
4 Food Truck Friday going strong in Plaza Midwood
Know as the Queen City’s favorite event on wheels , Food Truck Friday is thriving in its new location behind the Light Factory on Central Ave. You’ll have a rotating group of old favorite, brand new, and visiting trucks each and every Friday night to choose from with more trucks being added all the time.
5 A Run in the Dark
Up for the challenge? Bring your headlamp and your courage for the Friday night Tread Nightly run July 22 at the Whitewater Center. Feeling extra adventurous? Camp out post-run and wake up with the sun for the Tread Brightly run at 8 a.m.
6 Finders Keepers Summer Showcase
We’re excited to be doing something a little different in July and bringing you a host of local Charlotte businesses like the cool cats from Glory Days Apparel! We’ll see you on July 10th at NoDa Brewing Company! This monthly market at NoDa Brewing North End is a great chance purchase handmade finds from local vendors.
7 Beat the Heat with King of Pops
Just in time for the summer heat, everybody’s favorite mobile popsicle cart brigade has put down roots with a storefront in South End (2500 Dunavant St.). Now you don’t need to wait for one of their colorful carts to show up when a craving for strawberry lemonade, watermelon mojito, or chocolate sea salt hits.
8 Queens Feast
This July, more than 130 of the best restaurants in 8 counties around the metro Charlotte, NC, area offer 3 courses at dinner for only $30 or $35 per person (not including tax and gratuity).
9 Always Fresh at the Farmers Market
FRESHNESS is a way of life at the Farmers Market. If you are looking for a friendly place to shop for fresh produce, fresh pork products, grass-fed beef, goat milk cheese, scrumptious baked goods, delectable jams and jellies, unique handmade crafts, goat milk soap, beautiful fresh-cut flowers and plants of every kind, you can find it all at the Charlotte Regional Farmer’s Market.
10 Brewed and Raised in North Carolina
Free Range Brewing is the labor of love from brothers, Jeff and Jason Alexander. Raised in Eastern North Carolina, they’re definitely cut from the same cloth, but with distinctly different personalities. The Free Range Brewing story is really just beginning and they welcome you to come be a part of it. On July 16 they’re celebrating turning 1 with food from ultra-local spots like Orrman’s Cheese Shop and Your Mom’s Donuts, live music from Forlorn Strangers, and plenty of their popular brews.
